Self-Awareness=Creativity

When I first started writing content, I thought I should write about popular topics, and what everyone else was writing about. Then I realized my best ideas came from my own experiences, and the things that are important to me.

The more I wrote, the more I learned about myself. Being creative actually helped me understand myself better.

So, how can you become more creative?

3 Ways to Become More Creative

1. Follow Your Feelings

Your emotions can provide you with valuable information. When you’re frustrated, it could be pointing to something that could be improved. Are you excited by a random idea? That excitement is telling you something is worth exploring.

2. Notice How You Think

Pay attention to what actually helps you generate ideas. Do you need to talk through problems? Write them down? Take walks? Work with deadlines or open-ended time? It’s important to understand your creative process.

3. Ask “What If?” More Often

  • What if I could only use three colors?
  • What if this had to be done in an hour?
  • What if I explained this to a five-year-old?
  • What if resources weren’t a problem?

The Reward

When you combine self-awareness with creative thinking:

  • Your ideas get better because they’re actually yours
  • You get less stuck because you know what helps you think
  • Your work becomes more meaningful because it connects to what you care about
  • You waste less time fighting against how you naturally work
